Steamboat Springs has two local ski areas, its namesake Steamboat and Howelson Hill.  Steamboat is the more famous of the two, attracting skiers and snowboarders from around the world to explore its 2965 acres.  The resort offers a host of other activities when you're ready for a break from the slopes, including sleigh rides and cross country skiing.  Lodging is available slopeside and in the base area.

Howelson Hill Ski Area is owned by the town of Steamboat and is the state's oldest continuously operating ski area.  It features both alpine terrain and cross country skiing with 17 alpine runs and 9 Nordic runs.  You'll also find snow tubing at Howelson, which offers a great way to spend time with little ones or rest your legs after a long day of skiing.
