The majority of camping in Durango can be found in three locations. The historic town of Durango itself, which sits at 6512’ elevation, has numerous campgrounds. San Juan National Forest covers 1.8 million acres in the southwest corner of Colorado and provides a wide variety of camping options convenient to hiking trails and other outdoor adventures.  Durango camping is also available near the stunning Vallecito Lake, just 15 miles from town.
