After some hiking, check out the stunning peaks and sweeping wilderness of San Juan National Forest.  Those will to travel a bit further from town shouldn’t miss Mesa Verde National Forest and it’s awe-inspiring cliff dwellings.

History buffs will enjoy a ride on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which, as the name suggests, travels between Durango and the tiny ski town of Silverton.  Wrap up the experience with a visit to the attached railroad museum.  Spend another day wandering through historic downtown Durango – a chance to not only experience the history but also to enjoy the lively culture that has grown up over the years and maybe take advantage of some window shopping.
