Colorado Springs Colorado VacationFounded along the base of  Pikes Peak is Colorado Springs. Pike’s Peak soars above the city at 14,115 feet. Colorado Springs is Colorado’s second largest city. The city was founded in 1871 by General William J. Palmer, and was known back then as “Little London.”  As a result, there's no shortage of things to do in Colorado Springs.

"The Springs" is known for many cultural and government establishments. It has several performing arts centers including the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and Pikes Peak Center, and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. There are numerous museums and art galleries.  One of the nation's three U.S. Olympic Training Centers is also located here, as well as many military establishments including the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Just outside the city is the famous geological attraction known as Garden of the Gods, a must see if you are in the Colorado Springs area.  In addition to the Garden of the Gods, there are numerous other Colorado Springs vacation attractions in the surrounding region including the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Pikes Peak, and the Royal Gorge.

Colorado Springs provides a perfect starting point for a vacation in Colorado, with easy access to a variety of activities, plenty of lodging options, and the amenities of a large city.  It also offers easy access to much of the rest of the state for those seeking to explore the full diversity of the Rocky Mountains and Colorado.
