The areas is under consideration to receive additional protection as a monument thanks to the beauty of the canyon and the multitude of recreational opportunities that it provides.
Additional scenery can be viewed throughout the Arkansas River Valley. The Collegiate Peaks provide a stunning backdrop for family photos, camping, and hiking while the pastoral beauty of the valley and surrounding national forests is hard to beat.
Any of the several local hot springs can be your relaxation destination. With heated pools, natural creeks with heated mini pools, full service spa options, and nearby lodging, the springs have something for everyone. Most of the hot springs in the area are open year round.
Avid climbers of all ability levels should visit the Buena Vista Boulder Garden. Constructed by the city of Buena Vista for use by the general public it quickly became a tourist favorite and local hangout. The Boulder Garden is a great place to learn how to climb or work on some more advanced maneuvers without having to go up into the mountains.
