Breckenridge is home to some of the best cycling is the state. Whether you are a road biker or a downhill mountain fanatic, you will find what you are looking for in Breck. Come down for Breck’s Bike Week and witness the USA Downhill Mountain Bike Marathon National Championships, the Firecracker and partake in events like high-end bike demos, group rides, and bike-in movies. This year the USA Pro Cycling challenge will roll through Breckenridge. Come down and see some of the best pro cyclists finish the second stage on Main St. and witness the start of the third stage.
Summer in Breckenridge kicks off with Kingdom Days. Kingdom Days is a celebration of the town’s cultural and mining past. Hike to see how people used to mine in Colorado, enjoy live music, even try panning for gold. Be sure to check out the outhouse races. This popular event features contestants racing down the streets in homemade outhouses trying to win the coveted Golden Throne.
Ullr Fest is Breckenridge’s annual winter celebration. In Norse mythology, Ullr step-son of Thor, is the god of winter and snow. Locals believe that a vibrant celebration in his honor will bring snow and good winter conditions. During Ullr Fest it is not uncommon to see many people on and off the mountain dressed in traditional viking attire. Ullr Fest events include a frying pan tossing competition, the crowning of the Ullr King and Queen, a town bonfire, and the Ullr Parade on downtown Main St.
The winter Dew Tour rounds on the Breckenridge events calendar and is the first big contest of the freestyle ski and snowboard season. Now exclusively held in Breckenridge, Dew Tour brings the best freestyle skiers and riders together to compete to see who is best early on in the season. Regular contestants include Travis Rice, Scotty Lago, Simon Dumont, and Shaun White. Contest sponsors also set up a village where spectators can get autographs, snag some freebies, and compete for prizes.
