While you won’t be able to camp in town, head north and you’ll find options along Highway 9, the main road from Interstate 70 to Breckenridge. Campgrounds along Lake Dillon offer basic amenities and access to the water for fishing, kayaking, and camping. Be sure to check the specific campground you choose to make sure it has the amenities and hook-ups that you need for your stay.
 
As you head south towards town, you’ll find options ranging from fully appointed RV parks to backcountry sites. These options offer the easiest access to Breckenridge while still letting you enjoy a night outdoors. If you decide you want to head into town, there is also a free local bus system, making it easy to get from your campsite to Main Street, Breckenridge.
 
South of Breckenridge, there is little in the way of established campgrounds with amenities, however if you’re hoping to enjoy the Colorado backcountry, you’ll find plenty of options. Numerous local trails allow backcountry camping while providing incredible views, potential wildlife sightings, and the perfect escape from civilization. Don’t feel like hiking to get to your campsite? Check out some of the nearby mountain pass roads that allow four-wheel drive vehicles and ATV’s.
 
Realized you don’t have everything you need? Breckenridge is home to numerous outdoor outfitters who can provide everything from tents and backpacks to stoves, freeze-dried food, and boots. Be sure to pick up a map of the area you want to explore while you’re there – the town of Breckenridge is easy to navigate, but the surrounding wilderness is vast.
