Downhill mountain biking is an option in the summer months at many resorts such as Breckenridge, Snowmass, Steamboat and other ski resorts around the state.  A special lift ticket can be purchased to carry you and your bike to the top of the mountain, where you'll be able to choose from a variety of trails ranging in difficulty to get back down the mountain.

There are also public mountain trails throughout Colorado that do not require a lift. Biking allows you to quickly access remote parts of the backcountry that would take hours on foot, which means better scenery and a great way to explore Colorado's national forests.

Road biking is another popular activity. Depending on your location in the state, there is countless miles of paved bike paths. Colorado is a very bike-friendly state, so you'll be able to choose between steep, winding, mountain treks or more leisurely, flat bike trails.

The famous USA Pro Challenge race takes place around the state of Colorado late in the summer, which is a big attraction for many tourists and cyclists. Whether you're looking for inspiration for your own Colorado biking, or you just want to witness an amazing display of speed and endurance, this is an event you do not want to miss.

If you're looking to embark on your own bicycle tour of Colorado, consider signing up for a guided excursion.  You don't even need to worry about shipping your bike into town; there are countless rental shops in all the towns in Colorado that have a variety of road and mountain bike options, so travelling with your bike is not a necessity.

Biking in Colorado gives you the chance to take your time and enjoy the surrounding scenery or thrill down steep trails at death defying speeds.  The perfect family activity when coasting through town or the ultimate dare devil's ride on black diamond ski slopes, there's truly a biking option for everyone.
